  • Dental x-rays are a routine procedure that lets your dentist see beneath your gums to the roots of your teeth and bones. They’re an important part of assessing your oral health.

However, when your dentist leaves the room before taking them, you may find yourself wondering if x-rays are safe.

This is because a dentist takes several x-rays every day, which can cumulatively take a toll. A few x-rays each year, however, is nothing to be concerned about.

The amount of radiation is minimal – about the same amount you’d be exposed to in the course of a normal day from sources such as household appliances, minerals in the ground and the sun.

If you're concerned about an x-ray being taken, the best thing to do is talk to your dentist about it.

  • It’s normal to feel nervous about visiting the dentist. We understand and are here to help. If you struggle with dental anxiety, please let one of our team members know when you make a booking, or at the time of your appointment. We will do everything we can to make you comfortable.

You’re also welcome to bring a support person, noise cancelling headphones, or anything you need to feel at ease.

  • We welcome feedback from our patients via our patient feedback form.

Alternatively, you can call us on (03) 443 7705 or send us an email at reception@aspiringdental.co.nz.

  • Please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly team and they’ll happily answer any questions for you.
